BBMP makes tax payment easier

With the arrival of the new financial year, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has begun accepting payment of property tax for the current assessment year 2015-16. To facilitate easy payment of tax, the BBMP has given the option of online, as well as different modes of payment offline as well.
Online payment can be made through the BBMP's website with MasterCard and Visa debitcredit cards issued by any bank and will not be charged transaction charges.Taxpayers can also make pay ment through netbanking. Account holders of some banks can pay directly through their respective accounts too. Account holders of 33 specified banks can avail the netbanking payment facility through the IndusInd payment gateway.
A senior official in the BBMP says, "Tax dues less than Rs 1,000 can be paid in cash at BBMP help centres, the respective sub-divisional Assistant Revenue Officer (ARO) offices or in any of the BengaluruOne centres across the city. Payments above Rs 1,000 can be made through demand draft (DD), pay order, cheque or debitcredit cards."
Payment can also be made in cash, by cheque, DD or pay order at select branches of nine banks Canara Bank, Corporation Bank, HDFC Bank, IDBI Bank, Induslnd Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Yes Bank and ING Vysya Bank. You can get application forms on payment of Rs 5 at BengaluruOne centres, bank branches and ARO offices or fill up the form online and submit it at the centre chosen.
Tax payment can be made for assessment years 2009-10 onwards up to 2015-16.
A rebate of five percent can be availed on the total property tax payable if payment is made in full on or before April 30. Tax payment can also be made in two instalments the first to be paid by May 30 and the second by November 29.Payments not made within the specified periods will attract a penalty of two percent interest for every month of non-payment.
